Other states allow the practice, but require <a title=\"Exotic pet\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pouringbeans.com\/wiki\/Exotic_pet\">exotic pet<\/a> permits. Young orphan raccoons and raccoons acquired from reputable breeders may make suitable pets; however, raccoons are not <a title=\"Domesticated animals\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pouringbeans.com\/wiki\/Domesticated_animals\">domesticated animals<\/a>. Training raccoons is an intensive and ongoing process, and captive raccoons may retain destructive or aggressive natural behaviors, such as biting. Some douse their food in or defecate into the water dishes of other pets. Although <a title=\"Nocturnal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pouringbeans.com\/wiki\/Nocturnal\">nocturnal<\/a>, captive raccoons can be trained to sleep at night and to be active during the day.<\/p>\n<p>Captive raccoons can develop <a title=\"Obesity\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pouringbeans.com\/wiki\/Obesity\">obesity<\/a> and other disorders due to unnatural diet and lack of exercise; furthermore, many <a title=\"Veterinarian\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pouringbeans.com\/wiki\/Veterinarian\">veterinarians<\/a> will not treat raccoons.
