To add a bit of festive spirit to the Beans, I’d like to share with you the Christmas decorations from the suburban shopping centre near our house.
Naturally you will be feeling envious about your own comparatively tepid decorations. All I can suggest is that you try harder next year. And if that’s not the Christmas spirit, I don’t know what is.

We had some of them dotted around our way too minus the decorations. At least you had decorations.
Actually maybe they’re just the normal town decor and I only noticed them at Christmas. Hmmm.
Yes, these plant pots are always there, they just gained some sad baubles in December. I’m not aware that any plants ever grow in them.
Do sad baubles grow in them?
I’ll keep an eye on what sprouts there this spring and let you know.
Nobody needs sad baubles. Maybe you should plant something perkier now so that they bloom in Spring. Some kind of happy chalice? Smiling bottoms? Tip top trundle wheels?
And before you ask, I have a garden now and, yes, they are all perfectly real names of flowers.
Is that what you’ve put in it? When we moved in the side border was full of tip top trundle wheels and they absolutely took over. Turns out they’re an invasive species and carnivorous too. We only found out when they ate next door’s cat.
That would explain what they tapping is at night and all those threatening messages burned into the lawn.
Yes, the Gardener’s Question Time panel described them as a “right bunch of vindictive bastards” the other week, and recommended planting them in pots rather than in your borders.
