Ian and Chris have both had multiple shots at this… so this year its my turn. Its a huge honour, I know, but I’m ready. I can do this. I’ve got it. Leave it to me.
Recently we did a trip ‘ooop norrrth’ to Amble, which confusingly isn’t Ambleside where I’m heading in another few weeks time. Anyway, this Amble is on the Northumberland coast, and just a bit further up is Seahouses. In Seahouses you can get on a boat. The boat will take you to an island. The island is called Inner Farne. Inner Farne is full of… PUFFINS!
Here are some actual pictures of actual puffins I took with my own camera-phone…

Kev did a poooooooooooost!
And WHAT a post!
Wait. Puffins?
This man has done more for puffins than Mr Puffin himself, Derek “Puffin” Puffintree. I think about puffins twice as much since Kevin started going on about them.
Aren’t puffins named after Derek Puffintree?
And trees too?
So many words and schemes developed from Derek Puffintree that it’s difficult to know where to start with the whole biz.
I’m pretty sure that he also invented the name Derek. Before him there were attempts at calling babies things like Doric or Erek, but he was the first one to crack it.
Imagine being foolish enough to think Doric was an acceptable name and then the next day you see some guy walking along the street with a wooden module under his arm with the name ‘Derek’ on it. He was going to give it to a friend as a birthday present, wasn’t even going to keep it for himself. What a badass.
He also did have a bad ass, though biographies generally skim over that out of respect for him.
