Bacon

Lovely baconThere’s something special and unique about bacon. It is the salty, slightly chewy, potentially crispy path to heaven. It is the most divine and sought-after of the meats. It is the reason that god made pigs and knives compatible with each other.

This is an ode to bacon. This post is a tribute. A moment of quiet thought in reverence to the finest meat product the world knows.

Ahhh, bacon! Please feel free to share your bacon stories here.

Here are some bacon links.

Calm down dear, it’s just a posting!

I think bacon is one of those meats that you can have at any time. In the morning, a slither in the afternoon, or a full frontal on your plate in the evening. I enjoy eating bacon as much as I do thinking about it and I’m glad Marshall brought it all to our attention.

    Never Neglect Bacon!

Truly bacon is a meat for all meals – breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, midnight snack or breakfast again. My favourite is a tasty fry-up of fried chewy bacon, grilled crispy bacon, fried crispy bacon, grilled chewy bacon, and a side salad of bacon bits.

How does the group feel about gammon? Personally I find it rather yummy for a sunday roast.

    I LOVE GAMMON!

Obviously it can’t compare with bacon but on the whole really it’s just a huge, rounder piece of it. I love it with egg and pineapple. I feel really hungry now and nowhere around here does anything bacon-related. I think Greggs might have the sandwich of bacon but… it’s too far away 🙁

If bacon is King of Meats, then gammon is the Prince, with a crown of pineapple ring.

I like it with egg or pineapple but having both with it at the same time is a bit much. I’m simple, me… but happy.

I like that comparisson, it’s making images in my head. What are these images? What do they mean? If I thought hard enough I could… ah ah, that’s what they are 😀

Unlike Kev though, I don’t regard gammon as a Sunday roast meat. To me it is a relaxing weekday evening where you have enough time after work to make something a bit special.

Gammon ham with egg or pineapple… boiled potatoes swimming in melted butter… vegetables of choice… sprig of parsley… oh yeah baby.

I need to buy some gammon and some bacon now.

    There’s never a travelling man
With a bag o’ ham and gammon
    Called Sam
    Is there?
    I’ll have to do without
Because I’ve got none knocking about.

Brings a tear to my eye, Ian… oh my.

The good thing about gammon is its different guises, true if you are enjoying a tasty tasty gammon steak it’s best any night of the week (with a fried egg in my opinion) with some chips. BUT, and its a big BUT my friends, if you have in your fridge a juicy gammon joint, I can wholly reccommend you roast that baby up for a sunday dinner!

I went to Morrisons last night and just stood gaping at the bacon section in all its delight and splendour. Those are the kinds of moments that you live for.
